We are looking forward to holding our next annual conference in person 5 to 8 July 2023 at the Stephen Lawrence Research Centre at De Montfort University.<\/a><\/p>\n

We have contacted everyone who submitted an abstract for consideration, so if you have not heard from us Please check your junk mail folder, before contacting the Society via email.<\/p>\n

The deadline for presenters has been extended to Friday 2nd June, the deadline for non-presenting attendees is Friday 23rd June.<\/p>\n

Travel to Leicester<\/strong><\/p>\n

For information about arriving in Leicester by train, car, coach or air see Visit Leicester here<\/a>.\u00a0 Arriving internationally, trains between Leicester and London St Pancras are regular and typically take around 70 mins.\u00a0 Direct trains between Gatwick airport take around 30-60 minutes to get to St Pancras and run frequently. Regular trains and tubes also run between Heathrow to St Pancras taking 55-70 minutes.<\/p>\n

Places to Stay<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re thinking about your accommodation in Leicester, there are rooms set aside for conference delegates at the Hotel Brooklyn [ https:\/\/hotelbrooklynlei.co.uk\/<\/a> ] at preferential rates of \u00a3105\/night including breakfast when using booking code GA000373. At present the code is valid for telephone bookings only, it will be possible to use for online bookings in early June. UPDATED: Call for Papers – Deadline for Abstracts extended to 23 January 2023
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

46th Annual Conference of the Society for Caribbean Studies, 5-8 July 2023<\/p>\n

The Society for Caribbean Studies (SCS) invites scholars to submit abstracts of no more than 250 words for research papers, on the Hispanic, Francophone, Dutch and Anglophone Caribbean and their diasporas, for presentation at our 2023 conference. We hope to hold this event in person.<\/p>\n

We invite papers from all disciplines of Caribbean Studies across the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The Society is eager to receive proposals that centre the non-Anglophone Caribbean. Proposals may address any theme or topic focused on the Greater Caribbean and should be submitted by 23 January 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n

While we do not have a specific theme for 2023’s conference, we welcome papers exploring:<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0 sovereignty in the Caribbean<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0 the bicentenary of the Demerara Rebellion of 1823<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0 the 1953 election in Guyana<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0 the 40th anniversary of the US invasion of Grenada and the end of the Grenada revolution<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0 the 75th anniversary since of the docking of the Windrush<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0 the 1993 murder of Stephen Lawrence<\/p>\n

Please submit your abstract along with a short bio of no more than 150 words, via this form<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We also welcome proposals for complete panels, which should consist of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 4 presenters. Please note: a separate abstract and bio should be submitted for each paper. Each conference presentation should not exceed 20 minutes. You will receive an automated response when you submit and be notified of acceptance by the end of February.<\/p>\n
