Thousands of school students and activists have highlighted the global Climate Emergency over past months.<\/span> <\/b>Climate change threatens the future of young people and workers across the planet. The biggest polluters are the top corporations which are also responsible for attacking the wages and conditions of workers. Tackling climate change and improving the condition means struggling against big business, its owners and its political representatives.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the Trade Union Congress (TUC) last week Unite assistant general secretary Steve Turner called on all trade unions to back the school climate change strikes on 20 September.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

He also demanded that workers are up-skilled or re-skilled with no loss of pay or undermining of terms and conditions in the transition to a green economy as part of a just transition.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said<\/span>: \u201cAs trade unionists we\u2019re at the centre of the debate on just transitioning energy generation, our auto industry from the combustion engine to hybrid, full battery and hydrogen, and our ceramics, steel and construction industries from heavy pollutants to sustainable long-term low carbon producers.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd as trade unionists, as socialists seeking that better, fairer world, it\u2019s our duty to stand proudly alongside \u2026.young people\u2026. in this fight\u2026. <\/i><\/span>how proud can we be of our children, knowing it\u2019s their future at stake \u2013 taking to the streets, just as they did in 2010 in the fight against austerity, to demand the urgent action that is desperately needed.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n
