{"id":372,"date":"2021-03-02T19:44:57","date_gmt":"2021-03-02T19:44:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/community-languages.org.uk\/waltham-forest-trades-council\/?p=372"},"modified":"2021-03-02T19:44:57","modified_gmt":"2021-03-02T19:44:57","slug":"goodlord-strikes-over-6000-pay-cuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/community-languages.org.uk\/waltham-forest-trades-council\/?p=372","title":{"rendered":"Goodlord strikes over \u00a36,000 pay cuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-373\" src=\"http:\/\/community-languages.org.uk\/waltham-forest-trades-council\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Goodlord-Facebook-v2-768x644-1-300x252.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/community-languages.org.uk\/waltham-forest-trades-council\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Goodlord-Facebook-v2-768x644-1-300x252.png 300w, https:\/\/community-languages.org.uk\/waltham-forest-trades-council\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Goodlord-Facebook-v2-768x644-1-700x587.png 700w, https:\/\/community-languages.org.uk\/waltham-forest-trades-council\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Goodlord-Facebook-v2-768x644-1.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Strikes over attempts to slash staff salaries\u00a0by\u00a0up to\u00a0\u00a36,000 at lettings software provider Goodlord will disrupt services for Winkworth and other London estate agents, Unite, the UK\u2019s leading union, warned today (Wednesday 10 February).<\/p>\n<p>More than 20 Unite members employed in Goodlord\u2019s London-based referencing department, which provides tenant checks for estate agents, will undertake a series of\u00a0strikes\u00a0between\u00a0<strong>Monday 22\u00a0February<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Friday 26 February<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Under the fire and rehire plans, Goodlord\u2019s referencing staff\u2019s pay would plummet from \u00a324,000 to \u00a318,000 \u2013 less than the London living wage of \u00a321,157 \u2013 while their maternity, holiday and sick pay would also be reduced.<\/p>\n<p>Referencing staff are the only workers employed by the company to have been singled out for fire and rehire attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Impacted staff have been told by the company that since they are now expected to work permanently from home after their central London office was closed in October, they do not need to live in London. This is despite having been originally employed on the basis that they lived close enough to the office to commute each day.<\/p>\n<p>Goodlord provides services for a number of estate agents in London, including\u00a0<strong>Winkworth, Best Estate Agents<\/strong><strong>,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Andrews\u00a0<\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0Featherstone\u00a0Leigh.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Unite has written to Goodlord\u2019s favoured employment agency,\u00a0<strong>Tempfair Ltd<\/strong>,\u00a0to inform them of the industrial action and how it pertains to their lawful obligation not to provide temporary staff to cover roles usually carried out by striking workers.<\/p>\n<p>Unite regional officer Steve O\u2019Donnell said:\u00a0<strong><em>\u201cThe way these staff are being treated is deplorable. Part of the reason our members were hired was because they live in London. Now, in a transparent attempt to\u00a0justify wage cuts that would make it impossible to keep their heads above water, the company has told them they don\u2019t need to reside in the city they call home.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>&#8220;This is a disgusting way to treat loyal and hardworking employees, especially when the rest of the workforce is being treated reasonably.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cOur members have been left with no choice but go on strike to fight against these cuts, which would see their pay plummet to well below the real London living wage.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>&#8220;It is unfortunate that this industrial action will impact Goodlord\u2019s services to its estate agent clients, which includes Winkworth. However, I am sure these clients would agree that Goodlord\u2019s staff cannot roll over and accept pay cuts\u00a0that will plunge many into penury.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cGoodlord\u2019s behaviour is a prime example of a company exploiting the pandemic to unnecessarily erode the pay and conditions of its workers.
