Call for Papers: 50th Annul Conference for the Society for Caribbean Studies 2027

CALL FOR PAPERS

50th Annual Conference of the Society for Caribbean Studies

6 – 9 July 2027

University of Warwick

The Society for Caribbean Studies UK (SCS) invites research paper proposals for presentation at our conference, which will be held 6-9 July 2027. We invite papers from all disciplines of Caribbean Studies across the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, on topics relating to the Hispanic, Francophone, Dutch and Anglophone Caribbean and their diasporas.

This year, SCS is celebrating its 50th anniversary. To celebrate this milestone, we are delighted that the conference will be hosted by the Yesu Persaud Centre for Caribbean Studies (YPCCS) at the University of Warwick. YPCCS was established in 1984 as one of the first research centres in the UK dedicated to the Caribbean. Since its foundation, YPCCS has hosted the annual ‘Walter Rodney Memorial Lecture’ and, since 2022, the ‘Ameena Gafoor Lecture Series’. This year, we are excited to announce that the Ameena Gafoor lecture will take place as part of the SCS conference.

In recognition of the Society’s 50th anniversary and our setting at the University of Warwick, we are particularly interested in papers and panels on the following topics (though we welcome papers speaking to any aspect of Caribbean Studies):

  • Caribbean Cultural Celebrations
  • Anniversaries of Emancipation Day and Independence Milestones
  • The past, present, and future of Caribbean Studies in the UK
  • Caribbean Studies in a transnational frame
  • The history and legacy of Indo-Caribbean indentureship
  • Critical Methodologies and Pedagogies in Caribbean Studies
  • Caribbean Intellectual Traditions
  • The Caribbean Archive in Practice

Proposals should be based on original research and may address any theme or topic focused on the Greater Caribbean and should be submitted by 11 January 2027 23:59 GMT. Each conference presentation should not exceed 20 minutes. You will receive an automated response when you submit. If you do not, please ensure you have completed all steps and contact us at societyforcaribbeanstudies@gmail.com.

For individual research papers, please submit to the following form: https://forms.gle/iT1M7B3h9brFoiPB8
