Call for Papers: 48th Annual Conference of the Society for Caribbean Studies
Dates: Wednesday 2nd – Friday 4th July 2025

Due Date for Submission of Abstracts: Monday 13th January 2025
The Society for Caribbean Studies (SCS) invites scholars to submit abstracts of no more than 250 words for research papers, on the Hispanic, Francophone, Dutch and Anglophone Caribbean and their diasporas, for presentation at our 2025 conference, which will be held in Bristol. We invite papers from all disciplines of Caribbean Studies across the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Proposals may address any theme or topic focused on the Greater Caribbean and should be submitted by 13 January 2025.
The theme for our 2025 conference is The Politics, Poetics and Praxis of Repair, and we particularly welcome papers exploring:
- Repair and reparations
- Bristol-Caribbean connections
- Caribbean Carnival cultures
- The non-Anglophone Caribbean
Please submit your abstract, along with a short bio of no more than 150 words here.
We also welcome proposals for complete panels, which should consist of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 4 presenters. The abstract submission form allows you to propose an entire panel, but you will need to include abstracts for all papers and short biographies for each presenter. Each conference presentation should not exceed 20 minutes. You will receive an automated response when you submit and be notified of acceptance by mid-February 2025.

As well as offering a small number of postgraduate bursaries that help with conference registration costs, The SCS is also pleased to be able to offer a limited number of bursaries for students based at institutions in the Caribbean.
