The Society for Caribbean Studies offers several opportunities for postgraduate researchers to come together in community, share work in progress, and build scholarly connections across Caribbean Studies. These initiatives are designed to support postgraduates at all stages of their research. Postgraduate activities include:
Annual Postgraduate Conference
Each year the Society hosts its Annual Postgraduate Conference (alternating between in-person and online conferences), which brings together postgraduate researchers from across disciplines working on the Caribbean and its diasporas. The two-day conference showcases new and emerging research on the Hispanic, Francophone, Dutch, and Anglophone Caribbean. This year the conference will be held in person at Cardiff University from 16-17 April 2026. The conference is free to attend and offers a valuable opportunity for postgraduate researchers to present their work, engage in discussion, and build lasting scholarly networks.

*Note: Whilst the postgraduate conference is free to attend, all conference attendees are asked to register as paid members of the Society for Caribbean Studies, and current members are kindly asked to ensure that their membership is up to date prior to the conference.
Postgraduate Research Workshops
During the autumn semester, the Society’s postgraduate representatives solicits proposals for presentations at online research workshops. These workshops are run throughout the academic year and provide a supportive and collegial space for postgraduate researchers to share work in progress and connect with peers across the Caribbean Studies community.
Each one-hour session features:
- A 10-minute presentation of work-in-progress (not a formal conference paper).
- Discussion and feedback facilitated by questions/activities prepared by the presenter.
Postgraduate Writing Group
The Postgraduate Writing Group is open to postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers seeking dedicated writing time in a supportive collective setting. The group welcomes work on dissertation chapters, journal articles, conference papers, grant applications, and other projects. Emphasizing accountability, mutual encouragement, and writing in community, the writing group aims to make the research and writing process feel less isolating and more sustainable.
